A proper stomach exercise routine in combination with your regular fitness routine will firm your abs and diminish the fat. Crunches and sit ups will help you get a flat and firm abdomen, but to get a true six pack you have to make one step further.
Exercises for Upper Abdominal Fitness:
Basic crunches will be a good beginning. Start by lying on the floor and bend both knees. Put hands a little bit below the neck and slightly lift your shoulders. Lift your shoulders and upper back and stay in such position for about three seconds. Gently return to your starting position and do the exercise again. If you are a beginner start with eight and slowly increase up to fifteen.
Arm extend crunches differ from basic crunches. Lie down on the floor and bend your knees. Put arms right above your head and perform crunches as explained in the previous example. Keep the contraction for three seconds. You can slowly increase the hold when your fitness level increases. Again, start from eight reps and then do fifteen.
Support crunches are a perfect way for men to obtain abdominals they wish most affectively. You have to lie down on the floor and fold hands below the neck. Support your legs and make a 90 degree angel. You may put them on the seat of a couch. As you lift up the upper body, hold the elbows inward toward each other. Stay in such position for three seconds.
Exercises for Lower Abdominal Fitness
Knee crunches are also performed on the floor, raise your feet. Thighs must be in a horizontal position. Revolve pelvic area backwards and make your hips curl.
Oblique routine also help to reduce fat, especially in the hips. One way to train oblique muscles is again lying on your side on the floor, supporting yourself on the elbow, lower leg and foot. Lift your upper body, keep your hips straight and stretched out. Stay in such position for three seconds, lay back and repeat.
Another exercise for strengthening the muscle tone and making stronger the oblique muscles is to sit with legs spread. Put a broom handle or rod behind your head. Gently and slowly twist at the waist. Increase the number of repetitions each time you start training and feel that you can do more.
Remember if you are just starting the development of your fitness training; always consult your doctor. Discuss with him your how you fell and any discuss exercises you are going to perform. Discuss the fitness exercises you want to begin and your plan to execute the performance of more difficult or more strenuous exercises as you begin to reach the level of fitness you are looking for.

Somewhere under that extra skin and fat stored around your middle is a group of four muscles called the abdominal muscles. The abdominal muscles include
• the rectus abdominus, which runs up and down the anterior (front) surface of the trunk from the middle of the rib cage (fifth and sixth ribs near the sternum), between the rib cage and the pelvis
• the transverse abdominus, the deepest abdominal muscle, which starts at the middle of the rib cage (fifth and sixth ribs) and runs horizontally around the torso from the middle of the ribs to the pelvis
• the external oblique, which runs diagonally from your ribs lo your hips (imagine fibers running diagonally into the front pockets of your slacks)
• the internal oblique, which runs along the front and sides of your torso (imagine fibers running diagonally into your back pockets). Think of the oblique muscles of your waist muscles.
These muscles hold the abdominal organs in place, support the lower back, flex the trunk, maintain an erect posture, and play an important stabilizing role in almost any activity your body undertakes.
If your abdomen is one of your shaping trouble spots, first you need to get acquainted with your abdominal muscles; you need to know what it feels like when they contract or tighten. To find your abdominal muscles, stand tall with your hands along each side of your trunk just above the waist, with thumbs at the love handles and fingers pointing toward each other.
Now, tighten your stomach muscles, picturing the muscles tightening and drawing in toward your belly button. Your fingers should feel the muscles tighten.
If you try this and your ab muscles are still AWOL (absent without leave)—if you can’t feel them contract or feel them tighten under your fingers—try this method: Stand with your back against the wall. Place your fingers as instructed above. Now tighten your stomach muscle, picturing the muscles tightening, and flatten your back against the wall.
Next, stand tall (without your back against the wall| and tighten your stomach muscles without relying on your fingers to feel the contraction. As this gets easier, tighten your stomach muscles while walking around. When you can reliably feel them tightening, you are ready to tone your abdominal muscles while you walk.
After warming up with moderate-paced walking, start your Fitness Walking at a quicker pace, maintaining proper form. Now, hold your abdominal muscles tight, sucking them into your belly button while you walk. Do not let this interfere with your breathing. Your breathing should remain steady. Also, remind yourself not to bend forward at the waist as you tighten the stomach muscles. Maintain your tall and straight walking posture. Hold this muscle contraction for a count of 4, then release.

You Can Have Washboard Abdominals And look Great On The Beach
Can you imagine walking along the beach in you swimsuit with everyone looking at your rippling six pack. All eyes jealously admiring your suntanned, muscular physique.
Ok here’s the truth, “there are no easy ways to build washboard abs”!
But there are some ways that will give you fantastic results (and some that will waste your time).
It seems as if there is a new “Super Fast Power Abdominals” gadget on the market every week. Most of them are totally useless and may do more harm than good. The only thing that will get a workout is your wallet.
Some of them may work for a while but when the novelty wears off, it’s packed in the back of a cupboard, never to be seen again.
They are all limited in what they can do. They only allow you to do a limited number of movements. And then you get the next gadget out! You would need to exercise in a warehouse to get everything in. And that’s just for the abs!
I have even seen for sale, on eBay, with bids, a sun mask to place on your abs so that you will get sun tan where the muscle separation would be. I can imagine all the couch potatoes queuing up for this one.
If you do regular “Sit Up’s” for millions of reps you are very unlikely to build rippling muscles but you will have great endurance. If you do “straight leg sit ups” it is possible that you may damage your lower back due to the strain placed upon it. It may be better to avoid sit ups at all costs. The same with “lying straight leg lifts”.
One of the best exercises for abs is crunches. Lay on your back with your feet on a chair or bench. Curl up your upper body towards your knees. At the top position, hold for a few seconds, while flexing your abs. You will only get a short range of motion with this exercise but it will work wonders.
There are many variations of the crunch. Try doing them with a twist to work the side oblique muscles. Lying on the floor, try doing Jacknife crunches, raising your legs as you crunch, and try to reach past your toes with your hands.
For best results you need to do between 8-15 reps to build abs that will be admired be everyone. And take all sets to total failure and some more.
Some trainers say that in a set of 10 reps the first nine are the warm up and the tenth produces the muscle. I think this can be improved if you think that the one that produces the results is actually number 11!
If you are carrying a layer of extra body fat you will never be able to display a set of washboard abs. Losing that extra few pounds can make all the difference.
Counting every calorie that you eat is not my idea of fun. I like to eat a high protein diet and find it works for me. I enjoy lots of chicken, turkey, beef, milk, and cheese etc, eaten with plenty of healthy salads.
Avoid all processed food and cut down on the carbonated drinks, even the “low cal” ones. You do not need the artificial sweeteners and chemicals.
If you have a sweet tooth and are sometimes tempted to have chocolate it may be better to have a small bar occasionally instead of obsessing about it and then pigging out with dozens of candy bars. Buy fresh fruit and each time you have cravings eat some fruit.
As with any new program it is recommended that you start slowly and build up gradually as you gain experience. Even Arnold had to start with low weights and learn from more experienced bodybuilders.
